Like it or not………..

My review.

This is the e-mail I sent to my boss today.

Dear Devil,

As you know, I was not happy with my review on Friday and as I’ve lost a lot of sleep over it this weekend it is necessary for me to air my concerns.  You told me how you were feeling and now I have to do the same.

I feel that my review was totally inappropriate.  We spent the majority of the time discussing your concerns over my pregnancy and maternity leave, which would have been better addressed in a separate meeting.  You even said that part of the reason you put off sitting down with me is because you were stressed over what was going to happen after this baby was born.

I felt like I was evaluated on your future concerns rather than my previous years performance.  You agreed that I’ve done a great job and had nothing negative to say except that you expect me to get back to “normal” after this baby is born.  Frankly, this is insulting.

I have consistently taken on more and more responsibilities and many projects.  I managed the change in insurance that you’ve been meaning to do for years, which will save you over $6,000 a year.  I cleaned out and organized files which hasn’t been done in 25+ years.  I updated Timeslips which saves hours of bookkeeping.  I revamped your bills.  I saved hundreds of dollars in CPA bills because Anita had to spend very little time on our taxes.  Not once have you had to pay for Tammy to come back.  I changed office supply companies and contracted prices to save you money.  I’ve become more and more active in the construction at your house to free up your billable time.  I prepared for a Department of Labor audit which ultimately ended up costing you $300, thousands less than the alternative.  I’ve seen 4 receptionists come and go and have covered for them when you needed it, while still performing my duties.  I also took full charge of your office when you went on vacation.  The list goes on.

This is what we should have focused on.  This is why I deserved a bonus as well as a raise.  I also know your rational as to why I didn’t get one.

What bothered me most were many of your comments about my pregnancy.  You may not have intended for them to be offensive, but they certainly were.  You act as if this is some kind of affliction or condition that I will be “done” with soon.

Your comments about home day care being essential to the success of my career were out of line.  While under different circumstances your suggestions may have been considered “helpful”, they had no place in my review.  I wish I could afford in home daycare, but unfortunately that’s  not possible.  You made the comment that if I had someone in my home watching my children it “wouldn’t be my problem” when they got sick.  This is shocking to me.  My sick children will always be my problem.  I will miss time when my kids are sick, there is no doubt about it.  As long as my work is done, this shouldn’t be an issue.  I have never left my office without taking care of what had to be done.  I’ve never left bills unpaid, I’ve never run out of here in a rush and I’ve never done anything to suggest I ever would.

I also want to clarify my insurance coverage when I’m gone.  Since you’re only really covering 60% of the individual rate, which is $595 out of a $2,600 quarterly bill, I would expect you can do this for my entire leave.  I will be available by phone or e-mail during my entire time off and I’m coming back after only two months to make things easier for you.  While I may only be in the office part time for the remainder of the year, I will be returning to full time duties.  I don’t think that’s too much to ask.  I will pay the insurance bill directly as long as I’m paid at my full $XX hourly rate.

We’ve always had a great working relationship because I’ve consistently catered to your needs.  I have no problem doing this or any task that may arise, but I expect to be compensated and treated with respect.

It is not my intention to cause problems or damage our relationship, but I do feel it’s best for us all that I air these issues and not let them fester.

Your pregnant bitch of an employee,

Kristi
